Job Description

The Royal Air Force (RAF) continues its legacy in 2026 as a premier apprenticeship provider in the UK. This isn’t a typical civilian desk job. From your very first day, you are a full-time regular member of the RAF, earning a full professional salary rather than a reduced “apprentice rate.” You’ll gain world-class qualifications while serving your country.

Locations: Training begins at RAF Halton (Buckinghamshire) and RAF Cosford (Shropshire). Upon completion, you will be stationed at operational bases UK-wide, such as Coningsby, Brize Norton, or Marham.

Vacancies: The RAF is a “large-scale” provider. While exact numbers fluctuate by trade, hundreds of spots are available across the five main categories annually.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Technical & Engineering Roles: Minimum of GCSE Grade 4 (C) in English, Maths, and a Science or Technology subject.
  • Non-Technical Roles: Certain roles (e.g., RAF Regiment Gunner) require no formal qualifications—we provide all the training you need.
  • Fitness: Must pass the Pre-Joining Fitness Test (PJFT), which includes a 2.4km run, press-ups, and sit-ups.
  • Security: Applicants must meet residency/nationality standards for Security Check (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV).

Age Limit

  • Minimum Age: You can begin your application at 15 years and 9 months.
  • Maximum Age: You must be no older than 47 years old to join.

The Financial Package

  • Starting Salary: £26,300 from day one.
  • Pay Rise: Automatic increase once you finish specialist training and move to your first squadron.
  • Extras: 38 days of annual leave, non-contributory pension, and heavily subsidized food and housing.
